Ultrasound Examination in Pets

An ultrasound examination, also known as ultrasonography, is a non-invasive imaging technique that allows internal body structures to be seen by recording echoes or reflections of ultrasonic waves. Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique that is considered safe and does not involve radiation.

Ultrasound equipment directs a narrow beam of high frequency sound waves into the area of interest. The sound waves may be transmitted through, reflected, or absorbed by the tissues that they encounter.

The ultrasound is an imaging procedure that uses sound waves that aren’t audible to the human ear. These sounds “echo” off the corresponding site in question, which produces images that are mapped by black (fluid) and grey (tissue). From these images, we can get a better understanding of organ health and detect things like a tumor or pregnancy.

Is the technique affordable?

Although the initial cost of a scan may seem high, it has to be equated with the high cost of the equipment, the fact that specialized training is required in order to interpret the images, and a significant amount of time is involved in carrying out the examination. Its usefulness for pregnancy diagnosis, evaluation of the internal organs, assessment of heart function, and evaluation of certain eye diseases, make it an invaluable, non-invasive diagnostic tool to help protect to your pet’s well-being.

IS ULTRASOUND COMFORTABLE?

HOW DOES ULTRASOUND WORK?

The ultrasound waves that are reflected will return as echoes to the probe and are converted into an image that is displayed on the monitor, giving a 2-dimensional “picture” of the tissues under examination.

The technique is invaluable for the examination of internal organs and was first used in veterinary medicine for pregnancy diagnosis. However, the technique is also extremely useful in evaluating heart conditions and identifying changes in abdominal organs. Ultrasonography is very useful in the identification of cysts and tumors.

What Our Customers Are Saying

What do I recommend about this clinic? Everything! They get a 5/5, or 10/10 from me. Pleasant, informative, helpful giving you all the options but never pushing. I am impressed. A consult is about half the price of others in the area. Fluffy Butt was actually fairly calm through everything (big scratch on his eye) and was even purring when they were trying to listen to his heart rate. If course, Fluffy Butt is an attention junkie so big surprise. Now I know that he is a Maine-coon for REAL I also learned that it is my responsibility to ‘mainecoonscape’.

We are new to Bruce Street Animal Hospital, and so far, we only have great things to say. Their staff is always friendly, efficient and helpful. We have a new puppy, and an old cat, and they are amazing with both. Their prices are great, and they are not pushy in any way. They always make you feel comfortable and respect your decisions and concerns. I am very happy we have found them, as we have not had such great veterinary service in the past.

Dr.Sandhu and the team here saved my dogs life! I am forever grateful for their help. They are such an amazing team and when I brought my dog in panicked they did a thorough examination and found out she was seriously ill. Through their help we were able to get my dog healthy again. I appreciate how kind and helpful Taylor, Hannah, Ash and Dr.Sandhu were throughout everything. Highly recommend!!!!

My dog and I had such a great experience. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming making it a very pleasant experience for her. The vet was very knowledgeable and unlike some places didn’t have us do any uneccesary tests. The final price was very reasonable and overall I was very pleased with the staff:)
